Polyclitus

Polyclitus, name of 2 Greek sculptors. Polyclitus the Elder (5th century B.C.) was renowned for bronze statues of athletes, of which numerous marble copies survive. His most famous works, a colossal statue of Hera, now lost, and the Doryphorus (Spear Bearer), became the models for ideal proportion. Polyclitus the Younger (4th century B.C.) was known primarily as an architect but also produced figures of athletes.
