Plum

Plum, common name for many species of trees (genus Prunus) of the rose family that produce soft-fleshed fruits enclosing a single pit. The European plum (P. domestica) has been cultivated for 2,000 years. Wild species of North American plum include the American plum and the Canada plum. Wild species have been crossed with the European plum to make hardy varieties. Prunes are plums that have been preserved by drying.
