Pliny

Pliny, name of 2 Roman authors. Gaius Plinius Secundus, or Pliny the Elder (c.A.D. 23–A.D. 79), is known for his Natural History, a vast compendium of ancient sciences, which though of little scientific merit was popular throughout antiquity and the Middle Ages. He died attempting to help the citizens of Pompeii in the eruption of Vesuvius. Gaius Plinius Caecilius Secundus, or Pliny the Younger (A.D. 61?–c.113), a nephew of Pliny the Elder, was a lawyer, politician, and administrator, primarily known for his elegant Letters.
