Plantagenet

Plantagenet, name given to the branch of the Angevin dynasty descended from Geoffrey Plantagenet that ruled England from 1154 to 1485. From Henry II until the deposition of Richard II in 1399 the succession was direct. Thereafter, the crown passed to other branches of the family until the defeat of the Yorkist Plantagenet, Richard III, at the hands of Henry Tudor (Henry VII), who had remote Plantagenet connections.
