Pitti Palace

Pitti Palace, palace in Florence, Italy. Currently, it is an art museum housing an extensive collection of Renaissance art. It was originally built for the wealthy merchant Luca Pitti and later became the home of several Italian kings. The structure was begun in 1458, and major expansions were added subsequently. As the largest palace in Florence, it is impressive for its size and for the beautiful gardens (Boboli Gardens) located behind it.
