Council of Pisa

Pisa, Council of (1409), uncanonical Roman Catholic Ecumenical Council of 500 prelates and delegates from throughout Europe that met to try to heal the Great Schism. It deposed the rival popes of Rome and Avignon and elected a 3rd pope, Alexander V. This, however, merely created 3 separate parties.
