Harold Pinter



Pinter, Harold (1930– ), English dramatist and stage director. His “comedies of menace” have intricate and oblique human relationships, ambiguous and deceptively casual dialogue, and a fine balance of humor and tension. Notable are The Caretaker (1960), The Homecoming (1965), and No Man's Land (1974). His successful screenplays include The Servant (1963) and The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981).
