Allan Pinkerton



Pinkerton, Allan (1819–84), Scottish-born U.S. founder of a pioneer detective agency. He organized a Civil War espionage network that became the Federal Secret Service. “Pinkerton Men” broke up the Molly Maguires, and they were used to break the Homestead Strike in 1890.
