Pine

Pine, common name for the evergreen conifer trees of the family Pinaceae. Pines have needlelike leaves and reproduce through wind-dispersed seeds contained in pine cones. These trees are found in many places in the Northern Hemisphere. They are commercially valuable for their timber (used in the making of furniture, cabinetry, and paper pulp) and their resin (used in the making of paint, soap, and turpentine). Some western pines, such as the Pinus Ponderosa, grow as tall as 130 ft (40 m). Some pine cones, such as those of the Sugar pine, can be as long as 30 in (76 cm). One species, the Bristlecone pine, live over 4,000 years. Existing bristlecones are some of the oldest living things on earth.
