Piccard



Piccard, name of Swiss scientists who were twin brothers. Auguste (1884–1962), a physicist, set a world ballooning altitude record (1931), and an ocean-depth record (1953) in the bathyscaphe, which he designed. Jean Felix (1884–1963), a chemist, measured cosmic radiation during a 57,000-ft (17,374-m) balloon ascent (1934).
