Phrygia



Phrygia, ancient region and sometime kingdom (8th–6th centuries B.C.) in present-day central Turkey. Its early kings included Midas and Gordius. Excavation shows the Phrygians to have been highly cultured. The Phrygian worship of Cybele was taken over by the Greeks.
