Phoebe



Phoebe, any of several small birds (genus Sayornis) in the flycatcher family. The eastern phoebe (S. phoebe), with its pale yellow breast and dull green back, is prevalent in the northeastern United States. The say's phoebe (S. soya), slightly larger with light tan undersides, lives in the western United States. The black phoebe (S. nigricans), a dark-backed bird with a white underside, ranges southward from the southwestern United States through the continent of South America.
