Philanthropy

Philanthropy, acts of charity meant to improve the welfare of people. Philanthropy has been a part of many cultures, from the ancient Hebrews (who introduced a tax to help the poor) to the Greeks, Egyptians, Muslims, and Europeans of the Middle Ages. In the United State, philanthropy is often carried out through charitable foundations established by wealthy families.
