Pharaoh hound

Pharaoh hound, breed of hunting dog originating in ancient Egypt. It is built for speed, standing 21–25 in (53–64 cm) at the shoulder and weighing 35–50 lb (16–23 kg). It has a short, tan, glossy coat, with white markings on the toes, chest, tail, and face, and distinctive amber eyes. It is pictured in Egyptian paintings dating to 2300 B.C.
