Phalarope

Phalarope, any of various small seabirds of the family Phalaropodidae. They fly to the Southern Hemisphere in winter but breed in Arctic regions during the summer. The females court and establish territory. Their eggs are incubated by the smaller, less colorful males, who are also the nest builders. The birds resemble sandpipers and are up to 10 in (25 cm) long.
