Perch

Perch, freshwater fish of the family Percidae, often having colorful striped bodies. They live in slow-flowing rivers and lakes and feed on other fish. The smallest perch is little more than 1 in (2.5 cm) long. The largest are the walleyes or pike perch which are fished commercially on the Great Lakes. Yellow perch is particularly tasty. It breeds so prolifically that it may sometimes crowd out other fish and even outrun the supply of food.
