Penelope



Penelope, in Greek mythology, wife of Odysseus and symbol of faithfulness and domestic virtue. In Homer's Odyssey Penelope is besieged by suitors during her husband's long absence. Wishing to remain faithful to Odysseus, she refuses to remarry until she can weave her father-in-law's shroud, but she unravels her work each night. Eventually Odysseus returns, and they are reunited.
