Peach

Peach, tree (Prunus persica) of the rose family; also, its fuzzy-skinned fruit. Native to China, it is now cultivated in warmer regions throughout the world (notably in California). There are several thousand varieties, divided into freestone or clingstone types according to the ease with which the flesh comes away from the pit. The nectarine is a smooth-skinned variety of peach.
