Walter Payton



Payton, Walter (1954– ), U.S. football player. Known for his powerful running and ability to break tackles, he holds the National Football League (NFL) record for yards rushed in a single game with 275 (1977) and career rushing yards (16,726). Payton played for the Chicago Bears (1975–87) of the NFL, and led them to a Super Bowl victory (1985).
