Ivan Petrovich Pavlov

Pavlov, Ivan Petrovich (1849–1936), Russian physiologist and experimental psychologist. For his studies of the physiology of the digestive system of dogs, he received the 1904 Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine. Continued experiments with dogs, this time involving the stimulation of gastric secretions, led to his discovery of the conditioned reflex (physiological reaction to environmental stimuli), which in turn influenced the development of behaviorism. His major work was Conditioned Reflexes (1926).
