Linus Carl Pauling



Pauling, Linus Carl (1901–94), U.S. chemist and pacifist, awarded the 1954 Nobel Prize in chemistry for his work on chemical bonding and the 1962 Nobel Peace Prize for his support of the campaign for nuclear disarmament. Other contributions include his work in molecular biology, his support in advancing the use of chemotherapy for mental diseases, and the use of Vitamin C in the treatment of the common cold.
