Pasadena



Pasadena (pop. 118,072), city in the foothills of the Sierra Madre Mountains in southern California. Located just above the state's fertile San Gabriel Valley, it was given a Chippewa name meaning “crown of the valley.” A marketing center for the valley's abundant agricultural output, it is also a center of electronic and aerospace components. The California Institute of Technology (with its NASA Jet Propulsion Lab.) is in the city, which is also host to college football's postseason Rose Bowl game.
