Talcott Parsons



Parsons, Talcott (1902–79), U.S. sociologist. A professor at Harvard University (1927–74), he advocated a structural-functional theory, a framework for classifying the characteristics of a stable social system. Works include The Structure of Social Action (1937), The Social System (1951), and Politics and Social Structure (1969).
