Parker, Charlie (Charles Christopher Parker, Jr.; 1920–55), U.S. jazz musician and composer, known as Bird or Yardbird. An alto saxophonist, he and Dizzy Gillespie were the originators and leaders of the bop movement, an innovative and influential revolution in jazz.
