Papaya



Papaya, small, tropical, American fruit tree (Carica papaya), widely cultivated for its yellow, oblong, edible fruit of the same name. The juice of the stem, leaves, and unripe fruit contains the protein-digesting enzyme papain. The papaya is sometimes called a papaw.
