Papandreou

Papandreou, 2 premiers of Greece. George Papandreou (1888–1968) was premier from 1964–65. His removal by King Constantine II led to the military coup of 1967 and to the abolition of the monarchy in 1973. His son, Andreas Papandreou (1919–96) was premier of Greece from 1981 to 1989. Imprisoned and then exiled under the military dictatorship (1967–74), he founded in exile the socialist party known as Pasok (for Panhellenic Socialist Movement). As premier, he instituted numerous reforms.
