Palmyra palm

Palmyra palm, tall, fan-leaved tree (Borassus flabellifer) of tropical Asia. Its trunk, which may grow to 70 ft (21 m), supplies lumber. The large leaves, which ancient Hindus used as paper, provide thatching. The fiber of the palmyra is used to make rope, and the fruit, seeds, and shoots are edible.
