Paint

Paint, fluid applied to a surface in thin layers, forming a colored, solid coating for decoration, representation, or protection. Paint consists of a pigment dispersed in a “vehicle” or binder that adheres to the substrate and forms the solid film, and usually a solvent or thinner to control the consistency. Many specialized paints have been developed, for example to resist heat or corrosion. After applying a primer, the paint is brushed, rolled, or sprayed on; dip coating and electrostatic attraction are recently developed methods of application.
