Oystercatcher



Oystercatcher, any of a family (Haematopodidae) of shorebirds found in most parts of the world. The oystercatcher is distinguished by a flat, long, sharp orange-red bill, used to open the shells of the mollusks on which it feeds. It measures 16–20 in (40–50 cm) long and is black or white and black.
