Owensboro



Owensboro (pop. 87,189), city in Kentucky, originally called Yellow Banks after the color of its site on the Ohio River. Settled in the late 1790s and named after Colonel Abraham Owens, today it is an oil and gas, coal, and agricultural center. Manufactured goods include bourbon whisky, cigars, and food products.
