Oswego

Oswego, Great Lakes port city, on Lake Ontario and the Oswego River in New York, originally commanded by the British (1722–96) and incorporated in 1848. Usage of railways and the Erie Canal diminished the city's port value, but the opening of the Oswego Canal made it the northern terminus of the New York State Barge Canal, completed in 1918, and brought industrial development. Products include cement, wood pulp, coal, textiles, and sheet metals. The Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station here provides a major power source for central New York.
