Oneida Community



Oneida Community, religious commune founded by J. H. Noyes in 1848 near Oneida, N.Y. The group shared possessions and partners and thought of themselves as a “family” of God. They set up successful businesses in silver and steel products. The flourishing community was made a joint stock company in 1881, and social experiments were ended.
