Oedipus



Oedipus, in Greek legend, king of Thebes who was fated to kill his father, King Laius, and marry his mother, Jocasta. When he discovered what he had done, he blinded himself. His story and that of his daughter, Antigone, inspired tragedies by Sophocles: Oedipus Rex and Oedipus at Colonus.
