Sean O'Casey

O'Casey, Sean (1880–1964),Irish playwright whose sardonic dramas depict the effects of poverty and war. His early plays, such as Juno and the Paycock (1924) and The Plough and the Stars (1926), are the most highly regarded. His later works, such as The Silver Tassie (1929), were written in self-imposed exile due to hostility from Irish nationalists who objected to his unglamorous portrayal of the independence movement.
