Apollo Milton Obote



Obote, Apollo Milton (1924– ), president of Uganda (1966–71,1980–5). The first prime minister of independent Uganda (1962), Obote made himself president under a new, centralizing constitution (1966). In 1971 he was overthrown by Idi Amin. After Amin's overthrow in 1979, Obote was reelected president.
