Oath



Oath, pledge used to guarantee the honesty of an individual's statements. In legal situations, a witness can commit the crime of perjury for giving false testimony under oath. Although the oath originally had religious significance, it is used today primarily, but not exclusively, for judicial procedures. Other types of oaths include oaths of office and military oaths.
