Nubia

Nubia, ancient region of northeastern Africa, now mostly in the Sudan, along both banks of the Nile River from Khartoum in the south to Aswan (Egypt) in the north. In the 8th and 7th centuries B.C. Egypt was ruled by a Nubian dynasty that was ousted when the Assyrians took over c.667 B.C. In the 3rd century A.D. the Nobatae, a black tribe, settled in Nubia and founded a kingdom that lasted for centuries. It was Christianized in the 6th century and disintegrated under Muslim pressure in the late 14th century.
