NORAD

NORAD, acronym for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, a large defense system set up in 1957 to protect the United States and Canada against air raids. Headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, NORAD is designed to track an air attack and counter with antiaircraft missiles and fighter planes. U.S. and Canadian generals are, traditionally, the first and second in command.
