Nootka



Nootka, Native Americans of Wakashan linguistic stock who lived on the west coast of Vancouver Island and in the northwestern part of Washington. Several families lived together in long wooden houses. The Nootka hunted whales in 60-ft (18-m) seagoing, cedar canoes, used dentalia (tooth) shells for money, and carved puppets and masks with moving parts.
