Noah, in the Bible (Genesis 6–10), man who built the ark, at God's direction, that saved human and animal life from the great flood. His sons were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Shem became the father of the Semitic people, including Jews and Arabs. Ham was the father of the Hamitic people. Japheth was the father of the people of Asia Minor and Europe.
