Nicosia



Nicosia (pop. 177,000), city in north-central Cyprus, capital of the island nation. An ancient agricultural trade center, it is now a center for the manufacture of textiles and other goods and for governmental and commercial business. Ancient artifacts from previous colonists are housed in its museums. Since 1995 the official name of the city is Lefkosía.
