Nice (pop. 345,600), city in southeastern France, on the Mediterranean Sea, capital of the Alpes-Maritimes department. Originally a Greek settlement (from the 5th century B.C.), it is now a favorite vacation spot for tourists visiting the French Riviera. In addition to tourism, the city is known for the manufacture of olive oil and electronic products.
