Niagara Movement

Niagara Movement, U.S. civil rights organization led by W.E.B. Du Bois and other African American leaders, precursor to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The organization, operational for 5 years (1905–10), blamed European Americans for problems of racism, and fought for school integration, voting rights, and the election of black political candidates. Although the group was short-lived and not strongly supported, its principles influenced later civil rights groups.
