Paul Newman



Newman, Paul (1925– ), U.S. film and stage actor, director. Newman first appeared on Broadway in Picnic (1953), and on film in The Silver Chalice (1955). He appeared in Tennessee Williams's Sweet Bird of Youth both on the Broadway stage (1959) and in the film version (1962). He has starred in many films, including The Hustler (1961), Cool Hand Luke (1967), The Sting (1973), and The Color of Money (1986; Academy Award). He also directed Rachel, Rachel (1968), a film starring his wife, Joanne Woodward.
