Newfoundland dog



Newfoundland dog, breed of large, heavy dog known for its strength, patience, and intelligence. It weighs up to 150 lb (68 kg) and stands as high as 28 in (71 cm) at the shoulder. Its webbed feet and thick oily black or black-and-white coat aids it in performing water rescues. The breed is most likely a cross between the Great Pyrenees dog of the Basque region of Europe and dogs native to Newfoundland.
