Alben William Barkley



Barkley, Alben William (1877–1956), vice president of the United States (1949–53), under Harry Truman. A Democrat from Kentucky, Barkley served in the House of Representatives (1913–27) and the Senate (1927–49). He returned to the Senate in 1954.
