Bamako



Bamako (pop. 801,500), capital of Mali, located on the Niger River in West Africa. Bamako is a trade center linked by rail to Dakar, Senegal, on the Atlantic Ocean. Factories manufacture food, textiles, and metal goods. A former French colony, Mali became independent in 1960.
