James Addison Baker III



Baker, James Addison, III (1930-), U.S. secretary of state under President George Bush (1989–92). A lawyer from Texas, Baker was appointed secretary of commerce in 1975 by President Gerald R. Ford. He served as President Ronald Reagan's chief of staff (1981–85) and later secretary of the treasury (1985–88). He managed the 1988 and 1992 presidential campaign of Bush.
