Bactria



Bactria, ancient Greek kingdom in central Asia, lying between the Hindu Kush Mountains and the Amu Darya River, in what is now Afghanistan and Russian Turkestan. Bactria became part of the Persian Empire and fell to Alexander the Great in 330 B.C. It became independent in 256 B.C. but fell 150 years later.
