Aztec Ruins National Monument



Aztec Ruins National Monument, site in northwestern New Mexico on the Animas River containing the excavated ruins of a 12th-century Pueblo Indian town. Mistaken for Aztec by European American settlers, the ruins include a 500-room building and many Pueblo artifacts. The monument was established in 1923.
